Wireless Power & Communication - WPC was established in 2003 by Mr. Geir Olav G? vland. The company was established with the intention of developing, producing and marketing products based on the technology of transferring electrical energy and data communication without any metallic contact. This type of products is particularly suitable in areas where metallic contact reduces reliability and causes increased risk of explosions. Patents for this technology are approved in Norway and EU, and applied for in the rest of the world. HERNIS, as a part owner of WPC, in 2008 marketed a new line of products based on WPC’s technology. The new line called Reference includes standardized explosion proof torch lights, aimed for application within hazardous areas. Both the technology and implemented features surpass current competitor alternatives, and aim to increase safety, improve reliability, and at the same time reduce the need for maintenance. The Reference division at HERNIS focuses on building up a new distribution network, involving national importers and wholesalers in order to utilize a wide sales network and reach multiple industrial segments. Together with a Norwegian based company in Stavanger WPC has also used the technology to develop a subsea connector. This connector has been very well received by companies in the subsea business eliminating a potential source for faults and enabling subsea connection and disconnection.
